Math: This week in math we will conclude our Module 7 lessons and begin our area and perimeter robots. The students will use their knowledge of area and perimeter to design a robot using specific dimensions for the robot parts. The students will also be able to design an environment for the robot.
Science: This week in science the students will complete our learning on how plants and animals respond and adapt to the changes in their environment.

Resources this week: 5/7 - Art 5/10 - Music Math:
Our Math FSA assessments will take place this Tuesday and Wednesday! We are looking forward to watching all our students show what they know! The tests are paper pencil this year and will be 80 minutes each day.
Upcoming events: 4/30 - Continue i-Ready Math Diagnostic 5/7 & 5/8 - FSA Math Assessment 5/16 - General PTA Meeting and Elections 6 p.m. Resources this week: 4/29 - Music 5/1 - P.E. 5/3 - Media Math: This week in math the students will be solving a variety of word problems involving perimeter and/or area. They will determine which operation (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) is needed to solve the word problems.
Example problem of solving for area and perimeter:
Things to practice at home: Practice solving multiplication and division problems. Solve 2 and 3 step word problems involving all four operations. Round numbers to nearest 10's and 100's using vertical number lines. Practice partitioning objects and identifying equivalent fractions. Solve problems involving area and perimeter. Science: This week in science we will begin to classify flowering and nonflowering plants into major groups such as those that produce seeds and those like ferns that produce spores.
Upcoming events: 4/22 - No School 4/23 - 4/26 - i-Reading/Achieve testing window opens 4/24 - Early Dismissal 4/24 - All Pro Dads 7:45 Media Center 4/25 - Mid-module 7 Assessment 4/26 - Muffins with Mom 7:45 am Media Center Resources this week: 4/23 - P.E. 4/25 - Art Math: This week in math the students will continue working with area and perimeter. They will construct rectangles using a specified number of unit squares and determine perimeter of rectangles. The students will solve a variety of word problems related to perimeter. Example of word problem constructing rectangles using perimeter.
Things to practice at home: Practice multiplication and division facts. Use vertical number lines to round numbers to nearest 10's and 100's. Solve word problems involving all four operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division). Add and subtract numbers with and without regrouping. Practice partitioning objects into fractional parts. Compare fractions to determine fractions that are greater than, less than, and/or equal to each other. Practice identifying mathematical patterns. Science: This week in science the students will continue to explain the process of photosynthesis and learn why it is an important process for all living things.
This week in
math, the students will connect area and perimeter by constructing rectangles
from a given number of unit squares and determining the perimeter of the
rectangles.They will also construct
rectangles with given perimeter using unit squares and determine the area of
the rectangles.The students will
measure the perimeter of circles to the nearest quarter inch. They will use a
line plot to record the given number of rectangles constructed from a given
number of square units.
Example of word problem connecting area and perimeter.
Marci says, "If a rectangle has a bigger area than another rectangle, it must have a larger perimeter." Do you agree or disagree? Show an example to prove your thinking.
Things to practice at home:
Continue practicing multiplication facts 2-10.
Partition objects at home and compare fractions determining equivalency.
Add and subtract 2 and 3 digit numbers with and without regrouping.
Use vertical number lines to round numbers to nearest 10's and 100's.
Solve word problems involving the four operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division).

Science:
This week in
science, the students will explore how plants respond to stimuli such as heat,
light, and gravity.They will explore
how the amount of light affect the way plants grow.
This week in
math, the students will continue learning about polygons, quadrilaterals and
will explore perimeter as an attribute of plane figures and solve
problems.They will measure side lengths
in whole number units to determine the perimeter of polygons. The students will
determine the perimeter of regular polygons and rectangles when whole number
measurements are missing. They will use all four operations to solve problems
involving perimeter and missing measurements. Example of solving perimeter problems with known measurements:
Example of solving problems with perimeter with missing measurements:
Things to practice at home:
Continue
practicing multiplication facts 2-10.
Use vertical
number line to round numbers to nearest 10’s and 100’s.
Practice
partitioning objects at home and finding equivalent (equal) fractions.
Solve word
problems using the four operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication,
division).
Add and
subtract 3 and 4 digit numbers.
