Week of May 19th-23rd
Book Fair will take place this week, our classes will go preview the book fair on Monday afternoon, they may bring money to school on Monday or throughout the week bring money to purchase books.
Our final early release will be this Wednesday! Dismissal is at 1:30.
ELA: We will continue reading our novel, Dear Mr. Henshaw. I think some of us have been surprised at how an author can tell a detailed story only with letters written by one character! This past week, we learned a new close reading strategy called a "Memory Moment".
We are also continuing our informational reports... several students have finished their drafts and have shared them with the class. So far we have learned a lot about earthquakes, pandas, Sequoyah, the Indianapolis 500, and Kentucky.
Math:
We will wrap up our unit on capacity and mass and take a test on Friday.
Science:
We will test on chapter 6 & 7 on Tuesday. We will then begin our end of year review of all the curriculum we have covered, these reviews will be sent home nightly beginning Wednesday, please review them with your child so they are well prepared for their final Curriculum Guide Assessment (CGA) which will be on Tuesday, May 27th.

Week of May 12th-16th
Children's author Patsy Smith Roberts, will come visit the school on Tuesday! We look forward to hearing about all her wild adventures! Click on her photograph to explore her website.

Our end of year cook out and water day will take place on Friday afternoon! Please make sure your child comes to school with a towel, hat, sunglasses, sunscreen (already applied), a change of clothes (just in case)...just a reminder students should not wear bathing suits or flip flops! :)
ELA: We will begin reading a novel written by Beverly Cleary,
Dear Mr. Henshaw, a Newbery Award winner. This story is not Cleary's usual humorous type of writing, but quite different. The entire story is written in a series of letters from a young boy to a famous author. The boy's letters reveal many details about his every day life and struggles. We will work in groups to discuss our thoughts and opinions about the events in the book and the struggles that Leigh Botts goes through.
We are also continuing to write our informational reports. Students are choosing their topics, which important subtopics they want to include, important vocabulary they think they need to explain to the reader, and text features they think would be helpful.
Math: Students will take an end of year i-Ready diagnostic on Thursday in the computer lab, it is very important that they do as well as they can, so we can see how much growth they have had this year. We will take a test on Area on Tuesday of this week, and then will begin a unit on capacity!
Science: We will continue discussing Chapter 6- characteristics of animals & plants!
