Review rounding numbers to nearest 10's and 100's.
Practice solving 2 step word problems using the 4 operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).

Science:
The students will begin to investigate that the Sun is a star based on its properties.  They will explain how energy from the Sun can be beneficial and/or harmful.  The students will learn that stars give off heat and light, however, all but the Sun are so far away that we cannot feel their heat.

Math:
In math, we will complete our Module 4 lessons finding areas by decomposing into rectangles or completing composite figures to form rectangles. We will begin Module 5 by actively partitioning different models of wholes into equal parts (concrete models, fraction strips, and drawn pictorial area models on paper).  The students will identify and count equal parts as 1 half, 1 fourth, 1 third, 1 sixth, and 1 eighth. They will represent and identify fractional part of different wholes.  They will partition a whole into equal parts and define the equal parts to identify the unit fraction numerically.

Example problem of finding the area by using the break apart strategy of the  composite shape below:

The students may decompose the shape by using the following method:
 (2 x 2) + (2 x 4 )=

                                     4  +   8 = 12

The area of this shape is 12 square units
