ELA:
You will find reading activities and information on Mrs. Townsend's dojo site this week. Mrs. Rodgers will be updating the site with spelling words and class information.
Math:
This week in math,
we will measure weight and liquid volume in metric units. We will work on developing estimation
strategies by reasoning about the weight in kilograms of a series of familiar
objects to establish mental benchmark measures. We will solve word problems
involving metric weights within 100 and estimate to reason about
solutions. We will decompose a liter to
reason about the size of 1 liter, 100 milliliters, 10 milliliters, and 1
milliliter.
Example:
Decomposing 1 kilogram using a number bond.
Example of word problem:
Things to do at home:
Important metric words: gram (g), kilogram (kg), liter (L),
milliliter(mL),centimeter (cm), meter (m)
Discuss the capacity (the amount that a container can hold) of different containers around the house
Use a clock to tell time and to solve elapse time problems
Talk about the different units of measure and practice solving problems using different units of measure.
Continue practicing multiplication facts 2-1
Science:
We
will conclude our chapter on the scientific method and begin our new chapter on
the properties of matter. We will identify properties used to describe objects, such as size, shape,
color, texture, and hardness. We will
compare and contrast properties of objects.
The students will also describe the similarities and differences of two
or more properties.
