Thank you to our FCAT Sponsors! :)

Mrs. Kluge and I have been very fortunate to have two very helpful kindergarten classes who adopted us this year, to help keep our kids motivated throughout this busy testing week!  On top of creating these motivating posters, they have also delivered some sweet treats!  Thank you Mrs. Seefried & Mrs. Sisbarro! We appreciate you and your kindergarten friends! :)

Week of April 7th-11th

Our last week before the students take the FCAT.  We will continue to do test prep in both math and reading but we can tell these students are ready!  We will celebrate the end of the week by attending a Pep Rally that the teachers put together to get the students to be less stressed about the test and relax!  The third grade teachers really have something fun planned for the kids! We can't wait for them to see it!

FCAT Informational Session: Tuesday, April 8th at 6:15PM in the cafeteria.  We hope to see you there!

Parents please remember to complete your FCAT homework assignment and e-mail it to us ASAP.  We want each student to have a note to open on test day!

Please see note from Daylynne Eyster:

Hey fellow parents. This is Daylynne, Elijah's mom.  The FCAT is almost upon us and after working so hard all year I thought we could throw the kids a pizza party after they are done testing as a big "Congrats!" for making it through the test.  I would be happy to handle the logistics of ordering the pizza and picking up a treat and beverage for both classes.  If each family sends in $2.00-$3.00 we should be able to cover the cost.  Feel free to send in your donation in an envelope with my name on it by Wednesday, April 23 and I will take care of the rest.  The party will be on Friday, April 25, after all of the make up testing has been completed.

Also, if you can contribute snacks that would be greatly appreciated.  Possible snack ideas:  (items that are individually wrapped work best) cheez-its, goldfish, pretzels, rice krispy treats, Ritz cheese or peanut butter crackers, fruit snacks, etc.  We appreciate any donation for after testing snacks.  We could also use Capri Suns!

Math: We will review each day in class past standards and benchmarks, including: time, quadrilaterals, subtraction, place value, multiplication, composing and decomposing polygons.  There will be homework each night that reviews these benchmarks.

Science:  We will begin our unit on plants.

Tuesday marks the end of the 3rd nine weeks, report cards will be sent home on April 15th.  There will be no school this Friday, due to a planning day!

Math:
We will finish up our unit on Time (Topic 16) and test on Wednesday.  Then we will continue to review past benchmarks in preparation for FCAT.  We will send reviews that we complete in class home, so please be sure to review these with your child.  These reviews will count for a grade--it is important that students do their best.  They need to continue to get on i-Ready at home.

ELA:

We will continue to read informational text and use specific strategies which help us comprehend more effectively. We have discussed how previewing the text before we read helps us put it all together. When we preview informational text we:

1. Read and think about the title... make predictions and connect to schema we already have about the topic.
2. Continue to notice important text features such as headings, photos and illustrations with captions, maps, charts, bold words, etc. Looking and thinking about these first can really make a difference in our understanding. The author put the text features there for a reason... to help us!
3. Read informational text at a slower pace, as the majority of the information may be new to us!
4. As we read each section, think about the headings and the main ideas of each section. The text is organized much differently than fiction.

We are also reading meaningful fiction to review story elements/plot structure and theme... the message the author wants to share with us. Last week, we read The Littlest Matryoshka, a story about nesting dolls made in Russia. It was incredible when students made so many connections and comparisons to Edward Tulane... a great moment for me! The next day one of our students brought her own special matryoshka to share with us. It was beautiful and part of her collection of dolls from other countries.

Science:
We will take the Chapter 2 test on the sun and gravity on Tuesday.  This test will go on the 3rd quarter report card.
